The extras: nail grind, teeth brushing and specialty shampoo

A nail trim shortens the nail, but clippers can leave a sharp or rough edge. The nail grind that comes with the VIP Package smooths that edge down after the trim, so the nails are less likely to snag on a rug or scratch a leg when your dog jumps up on someone.

Teeth brushing is the other add-on that sets this package apart from the Full Groom. It is the part of the visit most owners skip at home, because most dogs would rather not hold still for a toothbrush. The Square booking page also lists specialty shampoo with the VIP Package, so the wash itself is a step up too.

Anal gland expression is available with the VIP, as with the other packages, by request only. Tell the groomer when you book or when you drop off, and it is part of the visit.

The finish: a bow or bandana, and how to book it

Every VIP ends with a bow/bandana, so your dog walks out of the shop on Union Turnpike dressed for the trip home. It is a small thing, and it is the last line of the package list.

Marie’s is by appointment only and does not take walk-ins. Current clients can book through the online booking page, at least two weeks ahead. New clients start by email at mariespetgrooming@gmail.com or by text to (718) 380-7387 with their name, their dog’s name, breed and rough weight, and current Rabies, Distemper (DHPP) and Bordetella records. The price depends on your dog’s size, breed, temperament and haircut style, so ask for a range when you reach out.
