Nails, teeth, ears and glands: what each one does

A nail trim shortens the nail. A nail grind goes one step further and smooths the edge that clippers can leave behind, which is a good choice for dogs who scratch at floors or at your legs. Teeth brushing is the one most dogs never get at home, and doing it in a short visit keeps it from getting forgotten.

An ear clean removes the buildup you can see at the opening of the ear. An ear pluck is different: it takes out the hair that grows inside the canal on some breeds, which is why it is listed as its own service. Anal gland expression is offered here the same way it is offered with every package, as a service you request.

Between full grooms, and what to bring

Single services fit the weeks between full grooms. Coats grow on their own schedule, but nails, ears and teeth need attention on theirs, and a short Fresh Meadows visit keeps a dog comfortable until the next bath and haircut is due. If you would rather have everything done at once, the Spa Bath, Full Groom and VIP packages already include several of these.

The vaccination rule does not change for a quick visit. Under New York State law, Rabies, Distemper (DHPP) and Bordetella must be current, and no pet is accepted without proof.
